The Thirwood Difference: Winter Holidays at Thirwood

The holidays are a special time of year. Family traditions are powerful and stick with you for a lifetime. Whether it’s cookie decorating, gingerbread house building, or snowball fights, activities this time of year are so personal. When a new resident moves into Thirwood Place, the staff goes out of their way to ensure they can hold onto their traditions.

One way we do this is by decorating every inch of hallway possible! It’s only the first week of December and Thirwood is already a winter wonderland. Our amazing maintenance team has filled our building with beautiful decorations, and you can’t turn a corner without seeing a decorated tree. And te Thirwood entrance is covered in lit garland and red ribbons.

Our maintenance team doesn’t just deck the halls, though: with the joy of the holidays comes winter weather. Whenever Cape Cod experiences a snowstorm, our maintenance team is on call and ready to clear the parking lot and sidewalks so our residents can safely go about their day. Maintenance-free living is something we pride ourselves on, and when a winter storm arrives it becomes even more important. No more shoveling driveways for our residents.

It’s easy to assume that moving into a community like Thirwood might mean leaving some holiday traditions behind—but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Residents are encouraged to bring their own decorations and make their doorways uniquely theirs. By the day after Thanksgiving, entryways throughout the community are already coming to life with festive touches.

Walk any hallway and you’ll find snowmen, nutcrackers, and reindeer lining residents’ doors, each decoration reflecting a personal story or cherished memory. These aren’t just seasonal accents – they’re meaningful keepsakes that turn Thirwood into a true home and keep family traditions alive throughout the holidays.
