Summer Cookouts!
It wouldn’t be summer at Thirwood Place without cookouts!
The menu is always different but the company is the same. These cookouts are such a huge group effort from the Thirwood Place team and they always end with laughs and fun. Our Activities Coordinator works with our Food and Beverage Manager to create a theme and menu they know our residents will love. They know our community better than anyone and love to create a joyful dining experience.
Blooming Flowers
When visitors arrive at Thirwood Place, we can always expect a compliment on our beautiful grounds and blooming flowers. With the help of the amazing Claire Liberty, who’s here to take care of the flowers seven days a week, Thirwood looks colorful and beautiful. It seems like something new is blooming every week. Right now the tulips are thriving!
Summer Holidays

Memorial Day is a special day at Thirwood Place. Respecting veterans is an integral part of Thirwood Place culture. We have so many residents who have fought for our country and we make sure to honor them on any patriotic holiday. As you can see below, Mr. Wells, who served in Vietnam, also plays Taps on his trumpet. So many residents have been able to bond over their experiences serving our country and we are so grateful to them.
Raised Garden Beds
Our resident gardeners look forward to our raised garden beds every year. Residents can reserve their spot starting in March. It’s been so wonderful seeing the gradual development of flowers and plants as the summer progressed. Two wonderful residents, Cal and Karen Mutti invited our Marketing Coordinator to dig up some potatoes they had planted. The progression of the gardens this summer has been exciting to watch. What began as one small cucumber developed into more tomatoes than the eye can see, some huge eggplants, and of course, beautiful flowers.
Annual Thirwood Place Car Wash
Our annual summer car wash is always a great time! This year, our residents enjoyed Root Beer floats while the Thirwood Place team, including our Executive Director Ken Smith, cleaned their cars.
Thirwood Social
The Thirwood Social is a special new addition to our activities calendar. Each month the team plans a themed dinner. As you can see below, in July our residents enjoyed a Hawaiian Luau. The dining room was decorated with tropical decor and our residents were each given lays.
